Department: Conservation and External Affairs but with links to Wales
Reporting to: Conservation Policy Lead
Location: Cardiff but frequent travel to London and Grantham
Hours of work: 37.5
Contract: Fixed term contract until end June 2019
Salary: £25,000 – £30,000

Job Summary

Leaving the EU is the most important change in land management policy for 40 years and a massive opportunity to secure a future for the UK’s woods and trees, we need to get our views known and our vision heard.
The Conservation Policy Officer will lead the development and advocacy of post referendum sustainable land management policies for Wales and support the development and dissemination of conservation policies across the rest of the UK.
Qualities/ Experience/Skills Required
Degree in a relevant subject
Knowledge and experience of working to shape UK land management policies, specifically the Common Agricultural Policy and its implementation and impacts on woods, trees and/ or other ecosystems
Working knowledge of Welsh Assembly Government processes
Ability to build collaborative partnerships across a disparate group of stakeholders
Self-starter with ability to prioritise but also capable of working as part of a team
High level of spoken and written presentation skills in both formal and informal situations
Ability to plan and deliver multi-dimensional projects
Knowledge/ experience of EU Directives and regulations that apply to species and habitat management within the UK
Knowledge/ experience of UK, Scotland and N. Ireland environmental governance processes
Knowledge of trees, woods and associated ecosystems
